Ghana Football Association president  Kwesi Nyantakyi has bemoaned the lack of interest in the local league and blamed the media for contributing to its downward spiral.

The Ghana Premier League is dotted with landmines of fixtures, unreliable television schedules and constant adjusting of the calender.

Attendance at league centres are not improving and clubs are struggling to meet their growing expenditure.

Critics have placed the problems at the doorsteps of the Ghana FA but president Nyantakyi believes should take a share of the blame.

"The media is also to be partly blamed because prime time on television is given to the league in the English premier league and elsewhere in Europe," Nyantakyi told a press conference on Thursday.

''Radio stations run commentary on the matches in the country and that is a worrisome situation. If I asked you journalist here to tell me the first eleven of Manchester United and Inter Milan, you can easily say it from the top of your head. But when I ask you to tell me the same for Wa All Stars, there would be problems."

Caf last week reduced the number of Ghanaian clubs that participate in the Africa inter-club competition following lack of interest and successive withdrawals.
