Kwesi Nyantakyi says he will quit hi Black Stars management committee role

Ghana FA chief Kwesi Nyantakyi says he will quit as the Black Stars management committee chairman following recent criticism of his role in the national team.

The federation will shake-up its committee in the coming days and Nyantakyi says he will quit the position which has become a matter of interest for many.

This comes after Ghana crashed out of the World Cup at the group phase and the country's participation in the tournament in Brazil was besmirched by player indiscipline.

The criticism of the role he plays in the national team is that since he is the GFA president and chairman of the Black Stars management committee there is no proper and independent supervision.

This has led to calls that he must quit the Black Stars management committee position so that he can supervise the work of the management committee when things go wrong.

This looks to have forced the hand f Nyantakyi to reveal that he will step down from the position in the next reshuffle.

“I have accepted to vacate the position,” Nyantakyi revealed to the Accra-based radio station Peace FM.

“I have noticed Ghanaians are really worried over it. I think there are many people around who can take up the position as the management committee chairman.

“When it’s time for the review for the various management committees, maybe you might not see me as the management committee chairman,” he concluded.

Nyantakyi has led Ghana to several successes since taking over the federation in 2005.

Under his leadership Ghana qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 2006 and has successfully reached three successive World Cup.

Ghana is the only African country to have won the U20 World Cup and this was achieved under his leadership in 2009.
