Ghana FA concerned over no Ghanaian referee at AFCON 2012

The Ghana FA is concerned that no Ghanaian referee made it to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and is already putting measures in place to ensure the situation is improved.

All candidates forwarded to Caf for further examination failed to make the final cut for the tournament being jointly hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana FA vice president Jordan Anagbla, though bitterly disappointed, did not put the blame on poor performance but on medical grounds.

"Of course, we as an FA are very disappointed that no Ghanaian will be refereeing at the Nations Cup," Anagbla told MTNFootball.com.

"But then the problem is not totally related to performance because some of the candidates were disqualified on medical grounds.

"It tells us that we are not doing enough when it comes to the physical preparation of referees.

"It is for this reason that the FA has decided to hand the administration of the Cooper Test to the Referees Appointment Committee rather than the Referees Association.

"This means training of coaches will now be in conformity with the updated version of the modern world to ensure that we have some referees at the next CAN in 2013."

The 2012 Africa Cup of Nation will be held from 21 January to 12 February.
