Ghana FA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara has no doubts the Black Maidens will be crowned Africaââ¬â¢s Womenââ¬â¢s National Team of the Year.
The countryââ¬â¢s Under-17 womenââ¬â¢s team have beenà pencilledà for the honour after their impressive showing at the Fifa Under-17 Womenââ¬â¢s world cup in Azerbaijan last month.
The Black Maidens became the first African nation to pick a medal at the world stage after à beating Germany to grab bronze.
The Ghanaians however faces stiff competition from reigning African champions Equatorial Guinea and Nigeriaââ¬â¢s Super Falcons.
But the countryââ¬â¢s FA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara insists none of theà competitorsà can notch up to the achievement of the Maidens.
ââ¬ÅNo African team has been able to win a medal in any womenââ¬â¢s competition ever in the world,â⬠Daara told radio XYZ
ââ¬ÅSo on paper anybody will say that they are the favourite. They are the first African team to put Africa on the medals map.
ââ¬ÅSo on paper you will say that they are the favourite. If you à look at history, records and performance, you will want to give them the favouriteââ¬â¢s tag.
ââ¬ÅSo for us we think they deserve to win the award and weââ¬â¢ll be waiting with waited breath to see them win.
ââ¬ÅThey did the country very proud. They did Africa very very proud. They took Africa where itââ¬â¢s never been to.
ââ¬ÅWe think that if à the award if given to them it will encourage them and the other African teams to do well and even do better.ââ¬
The winner will be made public at the Awards Gala to be held on December 20, at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
