Ghana FA confident Black Maidens will be crowned Africa's best

Ghana FA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara has no doubts the Black Maidens will be crowned Africa’s Women’s National Team of the Year.

The country’s Under-17 women’s team have been pencilled for the honour after their impressive showing at the Fifa Under-17 Women’s world cup in Azerbaijan last month.

The Black Maidens became the first African nation to pick a medal at the world stage after  beating Germany to grab bronze.

The Ghanaians however faces stiff competition from reigning African champions Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria’s Super Falcons.

But the country’s FA spokesperson Ibrahim Sannie Daara insists none of the competitors can notch up to the achievement of the Maidens.

“No African team has been able to win a medal in any women’s competition ever in the world,” Daara told radio XYZ

“So on paper anybody will say that they are the favourite. They are the first African team to put Africa on the medals map.

“So on paper you will say that they are the favourite. If you  look at history, records and performance, you will want to give them the favourite’s tag.

“So for us we think they deserve to win the award and we’ll be waiting with waited breath to see them win.

“They did the country very proud. They did Africa very very proud. They took Africa where it’s never been to.

“We think that if  the award if given to them it will encourage them and the other African teams to do well and even do better.”

The winner will be made public at the Awards Gala to be held on December 20, at the Banquet Hall, State House in Accra.
