Ghana FA confirms Ayew's injury but wants Black Stars' medical team assessment

The Ghana FA has confirmed news of Andre Ayew’s injury but wants the player in camp for the Black Stars' medical team to assess the problem.

The Ghana international suffered a hamstring injury in training with Olympique Marseille on Wednesday.

Ayew has been ruled out for an initial five days but the uncertainty surrounding a hamstring injury makes him a major doubt for the 2013 Nations Cup.

The Ghana FA however wants the 23-year-old to report to the Black Stars camp in Abu Dhabi by Saturday for the team’s medical department to access his injury.

“We received a letter with a medical report from Marseille over the injury of Andre Ayew,” GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie-Daara told Asempa FM.

“We have responded to Marseille’s letter where we expressed regret over the injury.

“Marseille have requested they keep the player until January 9th but the FIFA regulation has its deadline for foreign players to be released for the tournament on Saturday.

“But we have also informed them that we would want the player by this deadline for our medical team to access his injury.

“As you know Abu Dhabi has advanced medical facilities so we are sure we can have the best medical treatment for the player.”

Ayew’s injury comes in the wake of the unfortunate injury of Yahaya Mohammed who has been ruled out of the 2013 Nations Cup after picking a groin injury.

ITS CLEARLY A FAKE INJURY. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME MARSEILLE WON THE FRENCH LEAGUE TROPHY? THEY THINK THEY HAVE A REAL SHOT, SO WHY SHOULD DEDE LEAVE N COME FOR AFCON....SECONDLY, HIS LIL UNDERPERFORMING BRO JORDAN WASNT EVEN CALLED. OH AFRICA. WHEN WILL WE START APPLYING COMMON SENSE TO HOW WE DO THINGS....THE REAL MONEY IN SOCCER IS IN EUROPE. CAF REMAINING STUBBORN HEADED AND ADAMNAT IN NOT WANTING TO CHANGE THE AFCON CALENDAR WONT HELP EUROPE BCOS THEY HAVE THE MONEY. IT WILL AFFECT THE AFCON TOURNAMNT AS THE BEST PLAYERS WILL FIND EXCUSES TO OPT OUT OR PLAY WELL BELOW THEIR POTENTIAL...

Ironically, it seems the prayers of some people have been answered. From a list of 26 players, we now have them down to 23 even before the official announcement of Team Ghana. It looks like Yahaya Mohammed, Dede Ayew and Derek Boateng are out of the AFCON.

I would be happy if it happens bcos ghana n k appiah dont deserve the best.u leave out a player like jordan n pick clottey n adomah.what criteria did the coach used.jordan strikes from both wings, behind the lead strker,as the lead striker n from the midfield.u leave out such a player n invite adomah whose team is struggling in the championship (21st out of 24th league).not that clotey n adomah are doing better than jordan.the coach claimed to have invited the best we have,so why the worry if dede is injured.Nobody, with the basic coaching that i had under ben koufie' five year development plan, with coach hene as my instructor with assistance from kuuku dadzie n ossam duodu can convince me adomah n clotey are doing well now than jordan, unless u are blind n deaf.GOD BLESS US.

AA should drop one of the central defenders for a midfielder. The fact that three players have dropped out due to injuries & other commitments does not mean the rest should just go to the AFCON.The team lacks balance. We need an attacking midfielder.

Ahahahahah. God no be Alata man. Now AA and his bigots can go and play alone with their mediocre players. Ayew will not even be around for you to frustrate him by subbing him in every game even before he starts sweating. He should rejoice with his colleagues who have planned to frustrate Dede. God knows Dede is more dedicated to Ghana football than any of those Asante bigots who think Ghana should belong to them. We all know how Dede performed under the better Silas Tetteh. AA will surely pay if we underperform in the AFCON.

Its not easy to get most African players to play for their motherlands.Zambia suffered before we opted for local materials.I was reading about Adebayor and now my dear Dede.If this is true lets concentrate at local players who are tough tested and only get injuries once in a 'blue moon'

My brother Asem. Let us face facts and keep personal attacks out of this. You don't know me in anyway. Sorry if you happen to be an Ashanti. Kwesi is an Akan name and not all Akans are Ashantis. I don't hold anything against Ashantis. I believe Steven Appiah is an Ashanti and I hold him in high esteem. I was only referring to what has been clearly confirmed by their behaviours in all social institutions since independence. Talk about politics, business and sport. These Ashantis moved heaven and earth to subvert kwame Nkrumah, and the other presidents. In sports we have the story of Abedi Pele's captaincy. In all these situations Ghana suffered. It is true that no player is indispensable but deliberate attempts to frustrate young players simply because they are sons of your adversary is very bad and should be condemned. I saw how AA substituted Ayew in Malawi when he was protecting the left flank so well and giving the left full back room to operate. After his substitution, we all saw how we came under pressure. There are countless occasions of tension between the two sons and the coach. A good leader knows how to maintain discipline without compromising his loyalty to his subordinates. Dede has been one of the best players under our three past coaches. His underperformance under AA shows what a bad coach AA is. "Before you seek revenge, you must dig two graves" and AA will surely be a victim in his quest for indirect revenge against Abedi Pele. Every team succeeds from the dressing room and a coach who brings discontentment among some players cannot be successful. Check out the unity in the Zambian camp during AFCON 12. Herve Renard was a unifying factor amongst the players.

my friend you are a fucking guy. what can a local players do ?if they cannot even help their clubs to the highest level. Zambians are dying for their nation and have old players like katongos and more. while Ghana we are using younger ones what brains do they have to play? if they meet teams like ivory coast can they match them? this our black stars are going to show their hair style and come home wit nothing. call players like Dramani, kwesi Asare Amoah, Raheem Ayew, Emmanuel frinpong. Yusif chibsa. bigest names also play football.

@kwesi,you talk about unity & then you turn back and talk about ethnicity.if you care to know, jordan has been very abysmal in matches that AA has started him.did you watch the ghana vrs malawi in Accra? How many goals has jordan scored in the french league? Is Dede above substitution? Akwesi Appiah is not an Ashanti. He is from BA so stop your hatred of Ashantis.I watched that malawi match and that change by AA was tactical. He wanted to protect that one goal lead so he too Dede who was been whacked by the malawians & brought on robust Wakaso who is better defensively than Dede.didnt we win that match? You same people would have blamed AA should we have lost that game.AA never hates the Ayews.cast your mind back and you will recollect that AA is the person who gave jordan his first start in the match against Sudan in Kumasi which we drew.He was latter lambasted for jordan performance.stop those pull him down thing & rally behind the team.

@ Dr who. What are you talking about? Are you saying there are no Ashantis from BA? Check the ethnic map not the political one. Asamoah Gyan goes on a self imposed exile for more than 6 months only to be made captain on the first day of his return. You think that is good example in a team beset by grievances. Let us face facts. AA has lost it. Camaraderie in the team is at an all time low. It reflects on the performance of the team. No wonder teams like Zambia and Liberia exposed the mediocrity in our team. Only God knows how much money AA took from Asamoah Gyan. Jordan has proven to be a better second half sub than a starter. Why should AA try to force him to start. His description of Kwadjo Asamoah as a possible left back shows how incompetent he is. Just look at the formation Juventus adopts whenever KASA is used as a makeshift left back. Compare it to our style and see whether it will not be suicidal to play KASA at left back. AA is going to the tournament without an out and out left back. Most of the guys upfront are untested. The only tested striker, Gyan easily gets lost in exitement and disapoints big time. Gyan is therefore very unreliable. Whoever appointed AA has done this nation a great dis-service. I however wish him well and hope that he proves me wrong in the name success for our nation.
