The Ghana Football Association has confirmed the receipt of a request from Portland Timbers to have goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey excused from next week's friendly against Canada.

The 27-year-old was billed to make a return to the Black Stars for the game to be played in Washington on October 13 from his 16-month self-imposed exile.

But Kwarasey’s return could be further delayed over a request sent by his club to have him excused from international duty.

Portland Timbers want the Ghanaian goalkeeper well prepared for their MLS clash against Real Salt Lake on October 15.

They feel Kwarasey will not be able to recover in time from his trip to Washington to join the Black Stars and back to play in the MLS game.

And Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie in confirming the receipt of this request says a decision is yet to be taken over whether it will be granted or declined.

“We have received an official notice from Kwarasey’s club,” he confirmed to GHANAsoccernet.com.

“But we are still in transit to Washington. A decision has not yet been taken on this.

“No decision can be taken without getting an input from the coach. So we will put this before the coach before taking a definitive decision.”

Ghana has been hit with several pullouts of its players due to injuries ahead of the game against Canada.

Andre Ayew, Rabiu Mohammed and Christian Atsu are the latest to withdraw from the squad after picking up injuries while with their respective clubs.
