Ghana FA distances itself from widespread match-fixing claims in Premier League
2014/15 Premier League season to end this weekend

The Ghana FA has dismissed widespread match-fixing claims in the First Capital Plus League with one round of matches left to end the 2014/15 season.

There are growing beliefs that top GFA officials are actively involved in fixing matches especially in games that have direct effect on the relegation dogfight.

With the exception of BA Stars who have confirmed their demotion from the top flight, the fate of as many as seven clubs are still in the balance going into the final matchday.

There are however growing rumours that some clubs backed by influential officials of the Ghana FA are engaged in playing matches of convenience to the disadvantage of others.

But the GFA insists it is not involved in such illegal acts and is only interested in promoting competition in its flagship domestic contest.

“The GFA is and can never be involved in such practices,” GFA spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara said.

“The league is rather very competitive if you look at the situation of some clubs who can be relegated and yet still stay up depending on how results pan out.

“I can assure you that the GFA will never engage in practices of match-fixing.

“It is a competition and at the end of the day, the best teams stay up as against the teams that are not strong enough.”

AshantiGold are the confirmed champions of the 2014/15 season after building an unassailable four-point lead going into their final game away to relegation-threatened Great Olympics.
