The Ghana FA has explained the decision to leave out Fatau Dauda and Rabiu Mohammed ahead of next week’s international friendly against Montenegro.
Goalkeeper Dauda and Russian-based midfielder Rabiu Mohammed were conspicuously missing from the 21-man squad released by coach Kwesi Appiah on Monday.
While Dauda is believed to have been dropped due to lack of first team action at South African side Orlando Pirates, the decision to leave out combative Rabiu Mohammed has remained unknown.
However Ghana FA spokesman,  Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has clarified the situation with the two players.
“Dauda has been seen so many times by the coach. The coach also wants to give others the chance, which is why Stephen Adams has been invited alongside Adam Kwarasey,†Daara told Accra-based Asempa FM.
“Kwesi Appiah wants to give all players at least some chance to prove themselves so that he can have a huge pool to draw the World Cup squad from.â€
“We all know Rabiu went to the treatment room so the coach wants to give him the chance to fully recover.â€
The two are members of Kwesi Appiah’s squad and are likely to make the final cut.
After the match in Podgroica on March 5, Ghana will play Netherlands on 31 May.
At the World Cup, Ghana are in Group G with Germany, Portugal and the USA.
