The Ghana FA has suspended the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast from hosting games following severe physical attacks on referees.
Irate supporters of Ebusua Dwarfs who use the stadium as their home grounds charged on match officials after center referee Kojo Kyeremanteng disallowed a late equalizer in their 1-0 defeat to Aduana Stars.
The matter has since been reported to the Ghana FA's Disciplinary Committee but the venue has been suspended as a precautionary measure pending the verdict.
"We can't play a Premier League game in Cape Coast until disciplinary committee of the GFA has looked into the matter,†Premier League Board chairman Welbeck Abra-Appiah said.
“We only have to thank God the referee did not lose his life in Cape Coast.
“The league has become very competitive. Every club wants to avoid relegation, wants to be in the top 4 and if we don't act, things will get out of hand.â€
A new venue to be used by Dwarfs is yet to be determined but as things stand, it means the Cape Coast side will be playing their crucial week 21 league fixture against Asante Kotoko from their preferred Robert Mensah Stadium.
