Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi blames money for failure

A dispute over pay was behind Ghana’s exit from the World Cup in Brazil, the president of the Ghana Football Association was quoted as saying by local media on Friday.

“Money, money, money had been the refrain by the players, and it is a pity they allowed this to ruin our World Cup,” Kwesi Nyantakyi was quoted as saying by theDaily Graphic, a State-owned newspaper.

Local media reported this week that players had threatened to boycott the team’s Group G game against Portugal if they were not paid. They claimed they had received none of the $75,000 appearance fee promised by the association.

Ghana lost 2-1 against Portugal on Thursday, crashing out of the tournament after a poor first round also hampered by in-fighting that prompted the suspension of two players.

Ghana had hoped to repeat their success in South Africa four year ago.

At the 2010 World Cup they were the only African side to advance from the Group stage. They were knocked out by Uruguay in a penalty shoot-out in the quarterfinals in extra time, missing a chance to become the first African team to reach the last four.

Liar, you guys wanted to take advantage of the players, you did not believe the players could make it through the group stages especially after the USA match, but got panic after their good game with Germany, that was when you started rushing for money, if not what happened to $9.6million budget you sent to parliament that was approved. .shame on you, Muntari should have slaped you too.

Marcel Desailly will have done a far better job than Aa. How can Asamoah Gyan and John Boye insist that you drop Kwarasey just 45min before the Germany game and you listened to them. This is absolutely nonsensical. Appiah surely has no clue about coaching. When Marcel Desailly should have been given the job you said he had no experience. Which experience did AA have? Even ivory Coast of all people appointed a coach with no experience at all. AA has failed us big time. His selection against USA was absurd. Any layman without football knowledge could have made that selection. Why wasn't the starting team that beat Egypt 6;1 maintained. John Boye and Rabiu were both out for 4 months before the world cup and yet had starting roles. Loads of mistakes made. Jordan wasn't supposed to start any game when Waris was fit to play. Adomah shouldn't have come on for the US game when Wakaso was on the bench. I rest my case....

You have made us go from the respected team who beat the US to a nation who is now the laughingstock and the butt of Jimmy Kimmel jokes...I am sooooooooo mad!

And by the way if it was "money, money, money," then why didn't you take FIFA up on their offer. All you needed to do was to draw up LEGAL contracts between the players and FIFA acknowledging their receipt of monies before the game. But because of illegal, corrupt shenanigans and you wanting to steal what is not yours you and company chose not to...IT IS OVER siree...

@dasaitshy...I is beyond disheartening. And the shame of airlifting CASH in this 21st century leaves me speechless. It reveals a naivety in our so-called leaders that I find extremely scary. Wily Chinese and US citizens among others see this and no wonder we are not profiting from our resources of gold, oil, etc. We have to wake up Ghanaians and get rid of incompetency in our beloved country!

Dear Mr. Chairman, before the money there were issues with your coach, Mr.AA. We will not permit a tyranny of the ignorant. He messed up your selection, messed up the preparation, lacked consistency, lacked emotion and zeal, lacked communication skills, lacked courage/knowledge to change his tactics even when it was evident that change was necessary, has been subjected to insult and ridicule by some senior players in front of the younger ones! His Serbian masters set up a 4-5-1 system that worked well for important matches. He messed with the system without knowledge and confused the players with silence! Kwadwo Asamoah literally begged AA to push him upfield a little. He could easily have done this by introducing a third centre back and pushing the winged backs forward in a 3-5-2 that becomes a 5-3-2 in defensive posture! For AA 4-4-2 is the best and he sacrifice some of his best players because as he said after the match against the US, ‘we wanted to start with a 4-4-2 system! Every coach plays a system best suited to his best talents, he does not force the players to fit into a system in which they lose their shine! Mr. AA, has everything working against him! He should be advised to apply for the King Faisal coaching job-Grunsah will defend him against the Zongo players!

GFA IS TOO CORRUPT The winners of the tournament will receive USD 35 million, while the runners-up will obtain USD 25 million, the third-placed team USD 22 million, the fourth-placed USD 20 million, and quarter-finalists USD 14 million each. Teams that reach the round of 16 will each get USD 9 million, while those eliminated in the group stage will each receive USD 8 million. A total of USD 358 million will be shared as prize money among the 32 participating teams. In addition, each of the 32 qualified teams will be granted USD 1.5 million for preparation costs. USD 70 million will be provided by FIFA via the member associations to the clubs whose players take part in the final competition as a contribution towards their participation.

You think players who play in Champions league and are world class level would want to disgrace them selves unless they are mad like Suarez. use your brains!!! The coach was disorganized, lacked leadership and was confused tactically and the GFA was trying to fix matches and scam the players. Gyan & Boye asked Appiah to drop Kwarasey -KPB

This is what fucking happens when you leave an incompetent person in the helm of affairs. AA is soo fucking incompetent that, he doesn’t know what the **** is going on!!! I want a competent coach for Ghana who can manage the so many talented players we have. I dont care if he is white, pink, orange, blue, yellow, black or any color. The main criteria for this job – competency at coaching. I cant believe I wasted my money to come and watch the black stars in Brazil. What a fucking waste of my time and resources!

As usual reporting live from Brazil .listen to what Nyantakyi is saying and one realize the sort of judases we have in our country Ghana.,Now,they are complaining its the money which lead to their failure at the World Cup .well thank you sir! But somebody should ask him,did he refuse his own $100,000 appearance fees when it was flown to brazil by Mahama's interventions? There should be questions like what did he do to curtail the many misunderstandings caused by the money at the camp? Funny,I was shocked to even know that Afriyie Ankrah took some of the appearance can this happen!! This clearly tells the sort of pigs we have as leaders in the country ..

The GFA sabotage the president because he reduced their budget for the World Cup. So the president should look into the matter and deal with the accordingly. We can continue to spend tax payers money unnecessarily on football followers.

I am surprise that people are surprise what happened in camp. I think the people who are really surprise are Ghanaians who live outside Ghana . Wahala and corruption in ghana is a daily bread. Because we live in the USA or Germany or oversea we think Ghana has become a better place. No and stop dreaming. Ghana is the same country you left a years ago. Connection, who you know tribalism is still present. But this is Ghana and we love it. This makes us unique. We are not a developed country so stop acting like we are. Long leave Ghana.
