Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed a proposal being tabled by CAF to have FIFA pay directly to players amounts agreed as appearance fee for the World Cup.

This proposal is as a result of a trend with African teams at the world showpiece where their performances are often affected by issues relating to the delayed payments of their entitlements during the tournaments.

Togo, Cameroon and Ghana have been classical examples where their vast potential going into a World Cup is distracted by disagreements over payments of monies termed as appearance fees.

CAF wants an end to this trend in order to enhance its representation at the World Cup.

The continental football governing will be proposing a system to have FIFA pay directly to players agreed amounts as appearance fees from the prize money offered teams at the World Cup.

“At CAF, we are embarrassed that at the World Cup, on-field activities of African teams are affected by off-field activities,” Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi revealed at the Presidential Commission.

“So there is a proposal to have FIFA pay directly to the players.

“The national associations will only have to furnish FIFA with contracts and bank details of players so payment can be effected.”
