Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi says Black Stars will win 2014 World Cup

Published on: 10 March 2014
Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi says the Black Stars will win the 2014 World Cup.

Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the Black Stars have the credentials to win the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals.

There have been doubts about Ghana’s World Cup campaign after last Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly defeat to Montenegro.

This June’s tournament in Brazil will be tough for African giants who face Portugal, USA and Germany in Group G.

Nyantakyi has played down suggestions that the defeat in midweek could be used as an index to measure the chances of the Black Stars.

"I can promise you that Ghana will qualify from the group and lift the trophy at this year's World Cup," Nyantakyi said on Accra-based Asempa FM.

"The friendly against Montenegro was a useful exercise and it strengthen our believe that we have all it takes to go all the way in this year's World Cup."

Ghana will begin camping in Rotterdam and will face Holland on 31 May in a friendly.

The 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists will then engage Honduras at their camping base in Los Angeles, USA before the tournament starts on 12 June.

Do you sincerely think the Black Stars can win the World Cup? Do you think they can even go beyond the group stage? Make your views known in the box below:

Errrmmm - Mr President please be realistic and stop taking from your anus. It is good to be confident but foolish confidence is dangerous. You cant even win AFCON and you think you can win the FIFA WC 2014. If you fial to get through round 1 you will look stupid so rather focus on effective planning ok? Cheers!

The truth is, if we can get past Portugal and Germany who are touted as favourites to win the cup, then we have no right not winning it if we manage to defeat those two. The only problem is we need to fix our lateral defence issues, our defensive midfield issue (as we are aware Essien is no longer the cover we require and we are not sure of Rabiu or Anthony Annan), and give our goalkeepers the needed confidence. Then we can do wonders if the players play as if every match is the last match of their lives.

Y'all men of lil faith, in as much as we criticize our clueless manager and his mediocre tactics we also gotta have some kinda confidence in the team cuz we do have the player to make stuffs happen. I really don't believe in prophecies and stuffs like that buh this Nyantakyi man is something else, when we arrived in SA for the WC 4 yrs ago he said we were gonna go all the way and possibly win the ultimate most pundits thought he was just hallucinating. Buh what happened we were only a kick away from an historic semi-final berth if not for that unfortunately PK miss by Gyan, and who knows what could have happened had we made it to the Semis.

@Nantakyi - my friend stop being an arrogant bastard. What coach do you have to win the world cup? Black Stars players are very good but aren't been coached enough for Nantakyi to be talking trash like that. Nobody in Ghana or else where will believe you. Championship caliber teams win in any match no matter what. Their coaches know how to read games and change games. Unfortunately that is not what we see in Akwasi Appiah or Milo. So my friend, it is nice to be hopeful but the world cup is not a lottery. Thanks!

Only JOKERS will go along with this man!! In south Africa, we barely made it out of the-group stage and we all know Australia aided our qualification to the second round!! Again people tends to forget that WC has always been for the big boys and not underdogs!! There is nothing anyone can do about it!! Brazil, Argentina, Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Uruguay and england are the only countries to have won the WC and tradition is set to continue in brazil! If any fool thinks that, that is about to change in brazil, then that person better put the pipe down!!

According to sun tzu in the art of war, one of the most potent formation for winning a battle is to pretend to be weak even if u are strong!! Those who ll win ll take the enemy unprepared!! By the rantings of our so called leader, he is an UNSKILLED LEADER by his pronouncement!! Too much bragging has not taken us anywhere!

What cool aid did Nyantakyi drink? - - It affects the credibility of Ghana when the GFA President can make such a meaningless statement - may be he should never have been elected to that position. And, our coach ranked at 42nd, you cannot win World Cup with this level of coaching. Focus on winning AFCON first, acquire a world class coach and try for 2018.

Of course, with the right formation and right selection as the one below. Also providing a solution to the BS lateral defense. For over two years you have not been able to solve the problem of the lateral defense. This is a matter of listening to advice and implementing it but not an issue for Rajavac after all you are doing better than him so why trying to send your glory to a man you are already doing better than? Your lateral defense of Nkoom, Opare and Harrison Afful sucks at the moment. We have number of suggestions all over yet you cannot see between the lines and still continues to use these same guys despite their abysmal performances at these positions. I think it is about time AA tries Akaminko, Sumaila, Ainooson, Nuru Sulley, Kwabena Adusei or Wakaso as someone has suggested because of his strength , on the lateral defense before we even meet the Netherlands. In fact a 4-3-3 on attack made up of two good lateral defenses since the central defense role appears to be solved with four or more possible combinations such as Boye-Vorsah, Boye-Akaminko, Boye-Jonathan and Akaminko-Somaila. May be we need to try Jonathan Mensah-Akaminko as well as using some of the above central defense from CHAN at our lateral defense to see if that long lasting problem of the lateral defense can be solved. I must say very soon some of us are going to soon start using very harsh words on AA concerning this problem because he does not seem to be a listening coach. .Dede Ayew .A. Gyan . Majeed Wari .Kwadwo Asamoah .Rabiu Mohamed .K.P Boateng _____? Jerry Akaminko John Boye ________? Kwaresey 4-3-3 with Rabiu Playing the Role of a holding Midfield and switching of positions between Waris, KPB and Gyan upfront with further changing of this formation to 4-5-1 anytime the BS would have to defend. In fact a combination of Gyan, Waris and Dede Ayew can put pressure in any defense to make mistakes in the world because this is a blend of young, experience, energetic players. Also midfield of Rabiu, Kwadwo Asamoah, KPB, Dede and Waris when defending can neutralize any midfield with right execution from these players. Well Essien and Muntari can always start from the bench when the tempo of the game goes down or Essien can be used to solve the right full back position. Those I expect to up their game are Mubarak Wakaso and Christian Atsu. Atsu these days is becoming wasteful whilst Wakaso continues to warm the bench and this is affecting his play. Also one player AA should never make a mistake in sending to Brazil is Jordan Ayew due to his temperament. I think he should be allowed to grow. He has been doing this in France and is gradually bringing it into the BS and the earlier he is stopped the better. As for Akaminko the little said about this guy the better. You were dropped from the BS due to one mistake you made in one match yet, you do not seem to have learned from that. Although the Montenegro player tried to push his fingers into the hole between your neck and your shoulder, there was no need to punch him the way you did. It is because of our indiscipline attitude that is why we are not able to make it to the top level.
