Ghana FA rubbish accusations its responsible for Black Stars bonuses delay

The Ghana FA has rejected claims it’s responsible for the delay in the payment of bonuses for the Black Stars, three weeks after the team thrashed Mauritius in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The country’s Sports Ministry shifted the blame on the Ghana FA with claims it failed to submit their budget on time before the opening qualifier.

But the federation’s spokesman Ibrahim Sannie Daara has parried the accusations insisting they have done no wrong.

“We sent the budget to the Sports Ministry right after the AFCON 2015. It is absolutely false,” he told Accra-based Oman FM

“We cannot play an African qualifier before sending our budget to the Sports Ministry. Ghana Football Association is not capable of this.”

The delay in payment of bonuses is believed to have angered the players with most returning to their base in Europe for pre-season with their respective clubs while their relatives chase officials of the FA for their booty.

The Ghana government is struggling to cough up the over $370,000 figure to settle the outstanding bonuses with each player expected to take home $10,000.

This is the first time in ten years that players have not been paid their match winning bonuses which previously affected the national team and could not qualify even for tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations.

The issue of government’s failed promises is what led to the revolt by players at the World Cup in Brazil and if promises are still being made and not fulfilled it looks like the national team could be heading for another disgrace.
