Ghana FA Vice President George Afriyie says Avram Grant has performed beyound average since being appointed coach of the Black Stars.

Today marks exactly one year since the former Chelsea boss was handed the Black Stars job as the substantive replacement for Kwesi Appiah.

The 60-year-old managed to galvanize the Black Stars team within a short period of time to make a strong impact at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations Ghana came as runner’s up to Cote d’Ivoire.

Ghana also remains on track towards qualifying for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 World Cup with wins over Mauritius, Rwanda and Comoros respectively.

The Israeli trainer has however not done his job without controversy with many of his critics directed at his unwillingness to stay in the country.

But George Afriyie who doubles as the chairman of the Black Stars management committee says the coach has performed creditably despite these concerns.

“How do you measure the performance of a coach?” he quizzed.

“I think he has done very well. Yes, there are some concerns but even with that I think he has done very well.”

Avram Grant is now into his final year of a two-year contract handed him by the GFA.

He is tasked within this time to qualify the country for the 2017 AFCON where he probably will get an extension for him to achieve one of his targets of winning the competition in Gabon.
