The Ghana FA's review panel has slapped Referee E.R. Biney with a four-match ban for his errors during Kotoko's defeat to Heart of Lions last month.

The Porcupine Warriors reported the referee to the GFA's match review panel for denying the Kumasi-based giants two penalty appeals during the league game in Kumasi.

Insiders says after the match review panel watched the match they found out that Kotoko had legitimate concerns which resulted in the decision to slap Biney with the ban.

Biney has already vowed never officiate a match involving Kotoko after irate fans attacked him during the game claiming he cheated them.

Biney was lucky to have received few slaps after angry fans charged on him during the side’s 1-0 defeat at home to Heart of Lions.

Fans of the defending League champions were incensed with the performance of the centre referee after he awarded a penalty to the visiting team-  a decision which resulted in the only goal of the match.

The referee needed police escort to escape the wrath of the supporters as he left the venue trembling with fear.

He has vowed never to officiate games involving the Porcupine Warriors alleging team manager Godwin Ablordey and chief supporter Ali Maradona instigated the assault.

People rush to blame fans for their behaviors. I am not a fan of fan violence. I do not support fans attacking referees under any circumstance. It is wrong. Teams have proper avenues to channel their grievances. My advice however is this "Referees really have to be careful the way they do their job". You can't come to the field with a personal agenda. Soccer fans all over the world are very passionate about the game, and this includes Ghanaian fans. Some are downright crazy about the game. Teams also don't have control of their fans during soccer matches. Even though it's wrong , some fans might take matters into their own hands. And the way this Biney guy was assigned to officiate this Kotoko - Lions game at the last minute raises eyebrows. We all can now see that this guy was at fault in the way he officiated the match, but he went on ranting about how he will not officiate Kotoko matches any longer. I think that feeling is very mutual because I believe Kotoko will be in no hurry to have this guy officiate any of their matches any soon . It is funny how refrees are so eager to cheat Kotoko. The other time, Kotoko had to walk out of a final with Hearts because of a cheating referee. Every penalty they scored was disallowed (three penalties altogether, correct me if I'm wrong). This is absurd. And every penalty Hearts scored was good. Tell me again if such a referee came to the game with no personal agenda? Funny world of refereeing in Ghana. This Biney guy should have been given a lengthy suspension. You can't see soccer progress in a country if corrupt referees are not gotten rid of. They kill players' motivation, they cause bitterness, confusion and sometimes fights which can lead to the loss of life. They can also dampen the spirits and motivation of people who spend large sums of money to finance and maintain soccer teams. Serves him right.
