The Ghana Football Association is expected to investigate circumstances that led to the physical assault on referee William Agbovi during Medeama's league clash with Asante Kotoko.

A fan of Medeama went onto the pitch and heckled the referee after he disallowed a goal for the home side in an episode that enjoyed massive replays on television.

The Ghana FA could hand out stiff punishment to the home side for breach of security rules.

Ghanaian referees have over the past years been subjected to mal-treatment from soccer fans and the latest incident is expected to incur the fury of the Referees Association of Ghana.

It will be recalled that referees in the Eastern region on 12 May threatened to boycott matches in the third-tier league in the region following litany of attacks on their members by fans at match venues.
