Video: Ghana goalie Kingson apologizes for howler against Congo

Published on: 06 June 2011

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson has apologized for his gaffe during last Friday's 3-1 win over Congo in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at home.

The 32-year-old failed to properly deal with a back pass and allowed Congo striker Moussibu Massamba to steal the ball from his feet to score for the Red Devils.

The former Blackpool gloves man had come under pressure in the build up to the match after some fans called for his retirement.

Kingson believes last week's incident was an isolated case and wants fans to quickly forget about it.

"I sincerely apologize for what happened and hope the good people of Ghana would accept that it was a mistake,'' Kingson told the 90 minutes newspaper.

"It was sad to hear people calling for my removal because of that mistake. I agree it was an error on my part but these things do happen in football."

Kingson threatened to quit the national team after suffering verbal attacks from a fan in Accra.
