Ghana goalkeeper Daniel Agyei will be given the opportunity to impress new Free State Stars coach Tom Saintfiet having linked up with the side for pre-season.

Earlier reports suggested the 24-year-old had been released after just one season with the club, but the player is training with the team ahead of the new campaign.

The former Liberty Professional star, who won the 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup with Ghana, was in contention for a place in the country’s World Cup squad for Brazil until injury hampered his progress last season.

Agyei was a regular in the first half of last season, but an injury after the festive season break meant he lost his place to Tshepo Motsoeneng and Ayanda Mtshali as the duo shared duties for the remainder of the campaign.

Saintfiet, who was formally appointed last week, is likely to give all the players contracted to the club an opportunity to prove themselves ahead of the new campaign.

With new goalkeeper coach Andre Bronkhorst also on board, they will be keen to look at all options as the club seeks to avoid a repeat of their flirtation with relegation from last season.
