Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda modest with top form at Nations Cup

Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has played down his heroics against Cape Verde which sent the Black Stars through to the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Dauda was named Man-of-the-Match in Saturday's 2-0 quarter-final win in Port Elizabeth with his breathtaking saves.

The AshantiGold gloves man-making his second Nations Cup appearance-has conceded two goals (all in one match) after four matches.

The 27-year-old has justified why he deserves to be Ghana's number one but he wants to be modest with his tournament form.

"I will say Allahamdullahi (Praise be to God), Allahamdullahi (Praise be to God), Allahamdullahi (Praise be to God)," Dauda replied to a question on whether he has secured the number 1 position.

"It was a difficult one. You know we have very three good goalkeepers in the team and we have a lot of goalkeepers in the country both foreign and local.

"That is why we have the technical team. They chose me to start the game of this tournament.

"Not that am good than the other two goalkeepers but in football, everything is about selection and so I have to do my best to pay back the faith of the coach."

Dauda was an unused goalkeeper in Ghana's squad at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
