Seidu Bancey says credit must be given to defenders for the limited number of goals scored by strikers in the Ghanaian top flight.

The Asante Kotoko hitman currently leads the top scorer’s chart with 10 goals from 13 matches.

Concerns have however been raised about the lowered number of goals scored by leading strikers in the Ghana Premier League as compared to the many scored elsewhere.

Strikers nowadays only require to score about 14-16 goals on an average for the past decade to be crowned Goal King.

This is a far cry of what used to be the norm in times past when strikers were banging in at least 18-20 goals to win the award.

Striker Siedu Bancey has however attributed the drop in scoring rate in the Ghanaian top flight to improved defenders.

“It is not that we can’t score goals but then credit must be given to the defenders,” he told Metro FM.

“The defenders in the Ghana league are very good and I think they are very much underrated.

“The strikers don’t get it easy so if you are a striker who has scored more than eight goals then I think it is good but we’ll try to improve.”
