Afriyie Acquah has congratulated his former club Parma's immediate return to Serie A and described it as ''breathtakingly remarkable.''

Parma beat Spezia 2-0 on the road to pick up the second automatic qualification spot from Serie B with superior goal difference.

They were tied on 71 points with Frosinone but sealed a dramatic return with a two-goal advantage.

Parma, declared bankrupt in March 2015 and started again that summer from Serie D, have now earned back-to-back promotions.

Acquah expressed his excitement with the news and described Parma as a mighty club, back in its rightful mighty place in Italian football.

His celebratory mood is explained by the fact he has a special relationship with the club.

The Ghana midfielder had his breakthrough season at Parma in 2014.

The Torino star tweeted pictures of Parma’s celebrations, after the club survived bankruptcy and relegation to the amateur division of Italian football.

Parma were one of the biggest Italian clubs of the 1990s, winning the Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Cup, European Super Cup, Italian Super Cup and three editions of the Coppa Italia.
