Ghana midfielder Michael Essien raring to get 'fresh start' at Panathinaikos underway
Essien reported for pre-season training at Panathinaikos early in the week

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says he is thrilled to be starting a new adventure with Panathinaikos.

The 32-year-old joined the Greens last month as a free agent following the expiration of his contract at AC Milan.

Essien’s arrival has been heralded by many who believe his move will help revive football in Greece.

The European country has been hit with economic challenges in recent years but Panathinaikos managed to raise the needed funds to sign Essien.

The former Chelsea star who reported for pre-season duty last week says he is eagerly looking forward to the ‘fresh start to his career’.

“I am very happy that I'm back to Greece,” he said on arrival for pre-season training.

“First of all I am looking forward to meet my new teammates, my coach and all the people in the group.

“I am very happy about this fresh start in my career. And I expect and how to make a new start here ... ".

Essien made his name during his time with Olympique Lyon and more notably Chelsea where he played for eight years including a season’s loan spell at Real Madrid.
