Ghana midfielder Prince Buaben could be handed the captain’s armband at Hearts of Middlothian after being shortlisted for the role.

The 27-year-old must fend off competition from Morgaro Gomis, Blazej Augustyn and goalkeeper Neil Alexander for the new role.

The captaincy has become vacant following the departure of Danny Simpson.

The Ghana international emerged as one of the standout performers for Hearts last season as they won the Championship and bagged qualification to the top-flight.

Buaben scored four goals in 24 appearances for the club despite being sidelined with a knee injury for over a month.
