Ghana FA Executive Committee member Randy Abbey wants talks of a semi final target for the Black Stars at the 2014 World Cup shelved ahead of the tournament.

The Black Stars will be making a third successive appearance at the finals which kicks off on June 12 in Brazil.

Ghana have made progressive stints at the World Cup since its debut participation in 2006.

Many expect the Black Stars to again progress at least one step further than the quarter final finish achieved at the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago.

Others however believe the current team is well placed to make unprecedented history by being the first African side to clinch the World Cup.

But the Ghana FA Ex.Co member though believes the team has the potential to have an excellent tournament says these targets are way premature.

“I think that we have the potential and we have what it takes but you see in the World Cup you are talking about the best [teams] in the World,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“After the first round, 16 out of the best 32 in the World are going to go on and it doesn’t mean once a team goes out [after the first round] the team is not good enough.

“It is our hope that we are going to reach far but I don’t think for now we ought to talk about going beyond quarter finals and all that.

“For aspiration it is good to think this way but I think we need to take things one by one.”

Ghana is drawn in Group G of the upcoming World Cup alongside Germany, Portugal and USA.
