Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has included injured Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien in his provisional 30-man World Cup list in a largely unsurprising squad, a high source within the Ghana FA has told Ghanasoccernet.com exclusively.

German-born Kevin Prince Boateng, who is yet to receive his international clearance to play for the West African country was included in the list released by the Serbian coach.

Experienced defender Eric Addo who as initially thought to have been axed also made the 30-man squad.

Several youngsters for the country's U20 World Cup winning squad were named in the team with goalkeepers Stephen Ahorlu and Stephen Adams were handed their debut calls to the national team.

Chelsea's Michael Essien, who is a major injury doubt,  for the tournament in South Africa was named among the crack midfield.

Also named in the team are towering John  Mensah of Sunderland and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu of Udienese who are all struggling with injuries.

But their naming in the squad means that the Serbian is confident they will recover in time for the tournament that starts on 11 June.

Captain Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston and Sulley Muntari who all missed the recent Africa Cup of Nations have been called to return to the squad.

Also returning to the squad is Spain-based midfielder Derek Boateng who has regained his top form after sterling performances for Getafe.

Another player returning to the team is Quincy Owusu Abeyie, whose impressive showing with English side Portsmouth, has won him his place back in the team.

But the Dutch-born star must cut the tactical indiscipline in his game to be able to survive as the Black Stars seek a second round place in the tournament in South Africa.

Seven players will be dropped after the camping in France but the Ghana Football Association is keen to avoid the recrimination that surrounded the dropping of some players before the 2006 competition in Germany.

Hearts of Oak keeper Philemon McCarthy was axed.

It is understood the coach wanted a slimmer squad for their training camp in France later this month, but the technical committee agreed on a larger team in case the injury-prone squad suffers another injury setback.

But the Serbian boss has hinted that he could still change his squad as he will continue monitoring his players abroad.

Rajevac departed Accra on Thursday night as he heads for Qatar to watch Abeyie play in the Emir Cup on Saturday and will also be in attendance to see John Pantsil in the Europa Cup final on Thursday.

Injuries to Essien, John Mensah and Agyemang Badu means other players on the fringes of the squad still have a chance of making it if the three key players fail to recover in time for the tournament in South Africa.
