Ghana players' union attacks Tamakloe's claims

The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has launched a scathing on the ex-Ghana FA boss Dr Nyaho Tamakloe for claiming that some of the country's key players are age cheats.

The powerful body that represents the interest of all Ghanaian footballers both at home and abroad delivered the stinging rebuke in a press statement, saying 'enough is enough.'

PFAG, which is the Ghana affiliate of the world players union Fifpro, has all of the country's important ex and present players like Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Tony Baffoe, Sammy Kuffuor and Kwame Ayew as board members.

Tamakloe this week accused Michael Essien, Laryea Kingston, John Pantsil and John Mensah as age cheats but PFAG has taken great exception to the claim.

"We have been gravely concerned about some recent personal agenda against some of our members," the statement said.

Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe talked about “age cheating” which he did not provide any proof considering his status as a medical doctor he should have known better.

"With the World Cup approaching, we have noted with grave concern about these unfounded allegations against these players are calculated to damage the reputation of these players.

"(The want to cause) disaffection in the Black Stars team, and also direct coach Milovan Rajevac as to which players he should choose for the World Cup.

"It is time to stop the propaganda.  We need to call the spade a spade.

"Therefore we think it is also prudent that people do constructive criticism to the benefit of the country but criticism with underlying malice is only calculated to destroy.

"We want to warn that the PFAG will no longer tolerate the continuous fabrication of UNTRUE stories about some of our members."

Laryea Kingston has denied he has reduced his age and has challenged Dr Tamakloe to prove that he is an age cheat.

This is the first public statement from the organisation which has been operating in Ghana o the quiet for over one year.

It has been instrumental improving the welfare of all players and also succeeded in cancelling bad contract for players both at home and abroad.

When Prince Tagoe's stand-off with Hoffenheim erupted last year, PFAG contacted the German authorities asking them to impress on the club to reinstate his contract.

They also reported the issue to Fifpro as they a sought a solution for the player's contract to be reinstated.

PFAG is expected to be launched soon.
