The Ghana Police Service have assured maximum security for the fans that will be going to the Accra Sports Stadium to watch the super clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.

A massive attendance is expected for the game which sees the two most glamorous clubs in Ghana take to the field to battle for precious three points.

Attendance to this special fixture on the Ghanaian football calendar has taken a massive hit since the stadium disaster in 2001 which claimed the lives of over 120 football fans.

Measures have since been put in place to ensure the unfortunate situation doesn’t repeat itself.

The Greater Accra Police command who are directly in charge of providing security for Sunday’s match have put in measures to ensure the fixture goes ahead without a hitch.

“We know what happened some time ago and it has largely affected attendance to matches of such magnitude,” PRO of the Greater Accra Police Command Asp Afia Tenge said.

“But we’ve learnt our lessons and we have put in measures to ensure the safety of fans especially is secured.

“I can therefore assure everyone that the stadium will be very safe for them to come and enjoy the game.

“I would however ask that the fans will corporate and heed to all security measures we are putting in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the game.”
