Ghana Premier League Board chairman Welbeck Abra Appiah insists the already delayed domestic competition cannot be put on hold by the imminent appeal hearing of the protest lodged against Asante Kotoko.
The dethroned champions are battling to have their docked points by the Disciplinary Committee restored before the final round of matches in the Ghanaian top flight are honoured this weekend.
Kotoko had issued an ultimatum to the Ghana FA to have their appeal heard by close of day Wednesday.
This ultimatum will however not be met by the GFA since the processes involved in hearing an appeal have not been exhausted.
Some have called for the league to be suspended to allow the outstanding case of Asante Kotoko to be heard due to the likely impact of the ruling from the appeal on the league standings.
But PLB chief Abra Appiah says the league must be made to proceed as planned as it is still playing catch up.
ââ¬ÅYou would recall that we didnââ¬â¢t start this league on time due to a protracted court issue,â⬠he told Asempa FM.
ââ¬ÅTherefore the league is already playing catch up with the rest of the leagues in the world.
ââ¬ÅWe plan to commence the 2015/16 league season by December but this will be affected if the current competition is further delayed.
ââ¬ÅAlso remember there is a mandatory period of rest for players and for pre-season and so on.
ââ¬ÅAll these must be met within a limited time so there is actually no time left for anymore delay.ââ¬
Abrah Appiah went on to explain that the ruling from the appeal hearing of the Kotoko case would still be effective even after the current campaign has ended.
ââ¬ÅThe effect of the decision to come from the Appeals Committee would not be diluted at all even after the season has ended,â⬠he added.
ââ¬ÅIt is only a matter of changing the league table if need be.ââ¬
Tema Youth suffered a similar fate some few seasons back when they were docked 12 points to see the side ultimately get demoted even after the season had ended.
