Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah included six Ghana Premier League players in his preliminary 26-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The number includes two goalkeepers; Fatau Dauda and Daniel Agyei and four out-field players.

Berekum Chelsea duo Richard Kissi Boateng and Solomon Asante, Rashid Sumaila of champions Asante Kotoko and Yahaya Mohammed have been handed opportunities to play in their first Nations Cup finals.

Left-back Boateng was selected ahead of foreign-based duo David Addy and Nana Akwasi Asare.

Centre-back Sumaila will contest with regulars Isaac Vorsah and John Boye for a place in the final squad.

Twinkle toes Asante is a winger and Mohammed, captain of Amidaus Professionals, leads the scorers chart in Ghana Premier League.

The sextet must justify their places ahead of the naming of the final 23-man squad for the tournament.
