Ghana regains third position in latest FIFA World Ranking

Ghana has regained its third position in Africa after moving up three places to occupy in the 38th position in the latest world ranking released by FIFA on Thursday.

The results of the Black Stars matches over the past two weeks helped Ghana to move up in the ranking released by the world governing body.

Ghana moved up from 41st position to the 38th position in the global ranking.

A total of 171 games have been taken into account for the April edition of the FIFA rankings, which includes 51 qualifiers for Russia 2018, 60 continental qualifiers and 60 international friendlies.

Avram Grant’s team has played a two-legged crucial Afcon qualifiers against Mozambique since the previous rankings which were released in March – drawing 0-0 in Maputo and winning the first leg 3-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The new FIFA World Ranking sees Argentina take over from Belgium at the top, while world champions Germany slip down to fifth and Copa America winners Chile move up to third -- the highest they have ever been.

Black Stars are third in Africa, with Algeria, AFCON holders Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and Egypt completing the top five on the continent.

Algeria were African's highest-placed team in 33rd, one ahead of Ivory Coast, while 16th-ranked Mexico led the way for CONCACAF.

Three-times continental champions Nigeria dropped to 67th after failing to qualify for next year's African Nations Cup.

Colombia moved up to fourth place but Spain are down to sixth, just ahead of Brazil and Portugal.

England slip to 10th with Uruguay jumping above them into the top 10 at the expense of 11th placed Austria.

Australia jumped 17 spots to make it into the top 50 but Nigeria, who failed to qualify for the 2017 African Nations Cup tournament, slipped five spots to 67th as Morocco climbed an incredible 17 places to 64th.
