Ghana rejects Ebola-affected Sierra Leone's request to play AFCON qualifiers in Accra

Sierra Leone were seeking to play DR Congo in Accra in the AFCON qualifiers

The government of Ghana has refused a request by Sierra Leone’s national team to play its 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against DR Congo in Accra next month.

CAF instructed countries being attacked by the Ebola virus to find venues away from their respective countries for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations’ qualifying series.

But Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hannah Tetteh said at a news conference Thursday that even though it was a matter to be addressed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the football authorities, it could not be granted.

She stated the government’s position on the matter was “indirectly saying that this is not an available venue for the playing of such a match.”

Ms. Tetteh explained that “if we as Chair of ECOWAS and if ECOWAS as an entity has taken a decision to limit the meetings to only those that are absolutely necessary, and to ensure that even those that take place are properly monitored, then you realize that we are in difficult times and difficult times require difficult responses.”

Sierra Leone is one of the four countries stricken by the deadly Ebola virus. It has recorded a total of 783 cases as of August 11, 2014.

The number includes 53 new cases and 19 deaths, according to the World Health Organization.

Meanwhile, the number of people killed by the Ebola virus in West Africa has risen to 1,069.

Caf should suspend this crap of a tournament before most the players contract Ebola!!! FIFA and for that matter, African governments should make a decision now!! Ebola is now only in west Africa but I can see it wide spread during the qualifiers and beyond!! This qualifiers start from sept and ends in December and the time span is short and hence I can see alot of the fans and players contracting Ebola in one way or another!! These big pharmaceutical companies who only cares about money ll surly takes advantage of this qualifiers to spread Ebola just to turn around to bill us with their medicine!! We should be wiser!! Caf needs to be told to suspend this poor tournament!!

If caf don't stop their crap thinking and thinks only about the money that LL come out of this useless touranment, EBOLA LL BE USE AS A BIOLOGICAL WARFARE against us!! And those people saying that, this disease is found only in west Africa and hence they don't care, they ll live to regret it! Unlike the previous afcon qualifiers which span for a year, this one has only three months duration and there ll be a lot of movement of fans and players and am 100 sure that, Ebola ll spread to other parts of Africa!! This old school association only cares about their stomach and we have precedents to back this claim!! Considering how Ebola has killed thousands within a few weeks and Africans are scare of this deadly disease, the western pahrmecutical companies has find their new BLACK GOLD( EBOLA DRUGS)! We have to act smart and stop it spread by halting this meaningless touranment! What's wrong with the leaders of sierra Leone, guinea and Liberia? Can't their leaders see that, caf only cares about their interts and not that it them? This is the time, these affected countries needs their resources to fight against Ebola and not to donate free tax payers monies for issa hayatou and his francophone old school thieves!!
