Kevin-Prince Boateng believes he was sacked from Ghana's 2014 World Cup team because he questioned the federation chief over their unpaid appearance fee for the tournament.

The Ghana FA sacked Sulley Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng from the Black Stars camp at the tournament in Brazil two years ago citing various acts of indiscipline.

While Muntari was sacked for physically attacking a Black Stars management member, Boateng was sacked for directing abusive language at coach Kwesi Appiah during training.

Boateng was among the players who complained bitterly after government's promise of paying their appearance fee did not materialize and vented their anger on Ghana FA officials during a meeting.

With paying paying its appearances fees only after the competition, government agreed to pre-finance it to be reimbursed when FIFA pay the money at the end of the competition.

Despite this claim by the GFA under oath during the sitting of the 2014 World Cup, Boateng believes he was sacked because he raised the issue of the unpaid appearance fee at the World Cup.

"To be honest I was thrown out. I think it is really because I met with the President of the GFA for 20 minutes and asked where the money from FIFA had gone," Boateng told Sky Italia.

Boateng was said to have attacked the coach several times with abusive language in the presence of other players.

"The decision was taken following Boateng’s vulgar verbal insults targeted at coach Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio this week. Boateng has since showed no remorse for his actions which has resulted in the decision," an official Ghana FA statement said when Boateng was expelled.

Muntari was also reported to have slapped a Black Stars management committee member Moses Armah during a crisis meeting over the unpaid appearance fee.

The statement added: "The decision was taken in the wake of his unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the GFA and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr. Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting."

The decision to banish the duo from camp was arrived at in a management meeting where Boateng referred to have addressed the GFA president.

Ghana dominated the headlines as the issue of appearance fee row hit camp ahead of their trip to Brasilia to face Portugal.
