Ghana set to take on China without key defender Boye

Ghana will be without central defender John Boye when they take on China in Wednesday's friendly in Xi'an.

The France-based defender was part of the 18-man squad coach Kwesi Appiah selected for the warm-up game but he withdrew because of a strain.

The Black Stars will meet China in the first international between both sides at senior level and kick off is at 11:35GMT (11:35am Ghana time).

Coach Appiah had to train with 17 players at the Shaanxi Province Stadium on the eve of the game, which is the first in 11 years for China in Xi'an.

Led by Spanish coach José Antonio Camacho, the Asian are confident they can beat the Ghanaians to the game and returnee striker Asamoah Gyan knows the Chinese will  be no pushovers.

“(We hope to give them a) Good match. We are just here to give them a good game,” Gyan said.

“Definitely, people will be expecting us to win the game. I don’t know the Chinese team very well but they are also playing at home and they want to impress their fans.

"It will be very interesting but let’s see what they coach adapts. But hopefully we will give them a good match.”
