Ghana lost 2-1 to Canada

Ghana's Black Maidens slipped to a 2-1 loss to an impressive Canada side who secured their place in the last-eight along with the West Africans on Saturday night at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá in Tibas.

The Maidens had already qualified while Canada needed all three points to contest for a place along with European giants Germany and Korea DPR and they clinched victory despite finishing with ten players.

Forward Marie Levasseur, in her first match back from injury, netted an opening-half double to set Canada on their way to a quarter-final berth.

However, the dismissal of Bianca St Georges early in the second period for a last player foul changed the complexion of the match completely.

Powerful striker Sandra Owusu Ansah scored midway through the second half leaving Canada to demonstrate what is fast becoming trademark resilience to hang on for their reward.

Ghana made just a couple of changes to their line-up despite first place being guaranteed prior to the match.

Ghana topped the group with 6 points after beating Korea DPR and Germany.
