Ghana star Andre Ayew doubtful for AFCON

Andre Ayew

Ghana’s influential winger Andre Ayew could miss the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.

The 23-year-old, who plays for French side Marseille, suffered a hamstring injury during training on Wednesday.

Even though the extent of injury is not known the injury has been described by the French media as ‘fascial detachment’.

Marseille medical officials say they will have to observe the midfielder for the next five days before deciding whether he can play in this month’s tournament in South Africa.

“For the Africa Cup of Nations, we’ll see,” said Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo when asked about the status of Ayew.

Ayew was expected to join the Black Stars in their training camp in Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning.

The Ghana FA is yet to respond to questions over Ayew’s injury who must join the Black Stars camp on the deadline set by FIFA for players to join their national teams before major tournament.

Ayew’s absence will be a huge blow for the Black Stars as they fight for their fifth continental title in South Africa.

Ghana have been drawn in Group B where they will face DR Congo, Mali and Niger.

i smell somfin fishy abt dis injury

  2. lalasu says:

well, l was expecting u to mention Yahaya’s injury rather than this as it has been said on the radio.

  3. Redd says:

If he’s injured no need to take him. This will be the chance for others to impress.I dont expect ghana to win the trophy anyway so lets give others the chance and build our team for the world cup qualifiers.

  4. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

SMELLS LIKE MOMONI FISHY LIKE A CHEATING WIFE OR GIRLFRIEND’S CUNT\LOOK, YAHAYA I HEAR IS ALSO INJURED?
DO DEDE OR ABEDI HAVE BRIBED YAHAYA. IF AA DOESNT CALL JORDAN TO REPLACE YAHAYA THEN DEDE WONT COME…
WAT KIND OF FOOLISHNESS IS THIS. THE GBSTAR IS NOT A FAMILY BUSINESS. IF DEDE DOES NOT WANT TO GO TO AFCON BCOS JORDAN WASNT CALLED, THEN SCREW HIM. HE IS A FOOL. LEAVE HIM OUT AND CALL SOMEONE ELSE.
ALL WE NEED ARE HUNGRY, COMMITTED PLAYERS WHO WANT TO GO TO SOUTH AFRICA AND PLAY TOGETHER AS A TRUSTED TEAM. THIS IS A TEAM SPOT. DEDE ALONE CAN NOT HELP US WIN THE TROPHY UNLESS ALL THE OTHER PLAYERS ARE ON THE SAME PAGE. IF DEDE DONT WANT TO COME, LEAVE HIM BE AND LEST MOVE ON

  5. Kalaba says:

My favourite player,a big blow to Black stars. Hope he will be fit in two weeks time,as a chipolopolo we want strong teams. The harder they come the harder they fall!

  6. deadman says:

I smell samtin fishy n if das real am disappointed in Ayew. He is a playa i adore n respect alot due to his hunger to win. But hey i bet u. Dis is a chance for our new boy Atsu to shine

  8. Troy says:

    We want Afriyie Acquah in.

  9. dede#1fan says:

foolish ghana.now ppo start to blame dede for the injury n y dnt u talk about sannie darra who vowed to discourage dede.now that is what they wanted..dedes exclusion for AFCON n GOd shall punish GFA

  10. dadaba gonshots says:

Now, the GFA with The YAWA coach is Laughing! He would recover in time for the AFCON, God willing!

  11. jaja says:

tym to kal up owusu abeyie. It’s been long ovadue

  12. Jimmy says:

it has started…. i told you fellows 1 round elimination

  13. kuuku philly says:

This is a conspiracy from club, brother, uncle and father..they should drop him.

  14. Victor says:

Call Owusu Abayie. Is GFA serious? For God’s sake, forgive and forget whatever issue you have with Abayie. The Ivorians are afraid of Abayie and you guys want to joke. Please be serious.

  15. junior mafia says:

Myt b a blessin in disguise kwadwo on left wing atsu on right wing..no fears leggo

  16. Lukersh says:

I feel very sorry to hear this from dede and his partners in crime, all because Jordan is not making up to the square. Well, we all noe well now that Atsu is the new kid on de blog and winning all the admiration. It would be better he comes back to play to be considered later for the world cup. Dogo moro , baba yard, ck gyemfi etc have stopped playing soccer but gh BS moves on. SHAMEFUL…

  17. murtala says:

thought he is suppose to be on holidays just like the others, what was he doing at marseille traning grounds .

  18. Fu-Chu says:

The Ayews are pissed! Ghana will go nowhere. Our officials have treated them like dirt, and they deserved none of that.

  19. kuuku philly says:

    Fuck them anyway!

  20. kwa george says:

But this ghana soccernet has limited severe vocabulary. In a lovely game their vocabulary is limited to severe words like:
    -Suffer
    -opponent
    -in danger

  21. Sammytuga says:

We hav too many left-footed players. We need evry1, but this is not a severe blow!! Lets introduce Abayie on the right. We’ve got no problems on the left

  22. Fiifi,Berlin says:

Lots of speculation and “wishful thinking” going on here!!! Rather unfortunate, cos most are looking at the situation from only a single view or perspective!
Please wait till the GFA also perform their diagnosis and come out with their report. Please let us be fair to our national players, they are not maschines. They are human beings like you and me. What you don’t want others to do with you, don’t do to them!

    • Kay says:

You are right, but we have just few days for the tournament. A smart coach will call Quincy and Jordan ASAP. These two, are quality players every country will love to have except Ghana.

  23. Dr Who says:

The coach should call an attacking midfielder now and drop one of the central defenders at the end of the training tour.AA can also call Afriyie Acquah and push Wakaso to play offensively just behind the strikers like he did against Cape Verde. We wont miss Dede at all.

  24. illegal says:

    kwarasey
    paintsil vorsah boye afful

    atsu a.badu a.annan wakaso

    k.asamoah

    a.gyan(c)

  25. Gimli says:

Dede Ayew is such a charismatic figure for the BS! A true talisman, who has always given everything for the country. So, please, stop with all these conspiracy theories about him and father Abedi being pissed off about the exclusion of Jordan and God knows what else! The team is built around him and that should be the case for the years to come. Andre is the leader, the talisman for Ghana, just like Pirlo for Italy and Zizou used to be for France. He has an immense impact on the team’s game and a personality strong as a rock! So please, think better next time, before you say that Ghana doesn’t need Dede. Certainly Ghana can live without him… but in an average level. Make no mistake about that!
