Andre Ayew has urged Marseille to follow the recruitment policy of Arsenal after struggling to match up to mega spenders PSG and Monaco.

Marseille have fallen off the pace in attracting big players to the side due to their precarious financial situation.

Paris St-Germain and Monaco splashed huge sums of dollars to bring in high-profile players during the transfer window which has translated into their impressive performances in the French Lique 1 this season.

The 23-year-old has admitted Marseille cannot challenge the two clubs in the transfer market and must therefore adopt the recruitment policy of the English side.

"We cannot compare ourselves to PSG and Monaco today. They can afford to buy the players they want,” Ayew said

“When you look at PSG today, they will make a knockout Champions League stage anytime. We cannot compare ourselves to them.

“It is logical that they will win matches. They have experienced and quality players who have confidence.

"I trust our players. We have many young people who are coming through the ranks and can potentially play to the level of PSG and Monaco.

“But we have to follow the Arsenal example and look at their youth policy and you will be surprised at where we’ll get to.

"This is something that happens over time. Today, they may be challenging for the League title and Cup but will do better next year.

“It’s a story of cohesion. This year we had a lot of new and young players and I’m confident things will change next season.

The Ghanaian international says even though Arsenal have not won trophies in recent times, their model will be perfect for the Stade Velodrome side.

“Arsenal have tried it and have gained experience over the years. If Marseille take that path, players like Lemina and Imbula will blossom.”

“There will be victories and defeats. It takes time. The kids have a lot to learn.

“ If Olympique Marseille does not have the means, we should opt for a policy like the president is trying to apply. We do with what we can. I am convinced that is the right path to advance.

Marseille are 6th on the table and are chasing a Uefa Europa League qualification.
