Ghana star midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has admitted his Schalke 04 side failed to march the class of Real Madrid after their 6-1 thumping in the UEFA Champions League round 16 first leg on Wednesday night.

Boateng started the game for the Royals Blues at the Veltins Arena but he could not alter the fate of the game before being replaced in the 59th minute.

French striker Karim Benzema hit a brace while current world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and assisted two other goals as the nine-time champions took a firm step forward to qualify.

And, Boateng admits Madrid were far better than them in the game.

"No one is to blame, but we reached our limits today. They were ruthless and deserved the win," he said.

As Boateng was in action for Schalke, compatriot Anthony Annan could not make the squad for the game.

He was deployed as one of the holding midfielders on the right side of the back four in the Scalke 04. He was tactically indiscipline throughout the 59mins that he was on the field. He vacated his role as a holding midfielder operating on the right side of the back four and was always found on the attack instead. He avoided all the challenging tackles or the 50-50 tackles. AA should never make that same mistake because I am not so sure this guy is fully recovered as he claimed. May be could do well at the right side of the attack and be switching positions with say Dede Ayew on the left but AA should never be used as a holding midfielder no matter what. AA you do that at your own peril and this equally goes to Essien. These two players, whether we like it or not, I think they have lost their power. I am saying this because with the current crop of BS players called for the Montenegro match I do not see any of the players you can use as a holding midfielder operating on the right in the absence of Rabiu who I agree with the decision and the reason of leaving him out. Badu another player who could have been used is also another indiscipline player who loves to come forward but in a worse scenario can be restricted or face being dropped from the BS.
