Ghana to start World Cup pre-tournament camp in May

Published on: 29 January 2014

Ghana will start their pre-tournament camping for the World Cup in May, a Ghana FA senior executive George Afriyie has revealed.

Coach Kwesi Appiah will open his team base camp in May most likely in Europe as they only yesterday announced a friendly against Holland in Rotterdam on 31 May.

This means the Black Stars will start camping before the match against the Dutch.

Despite agitations from certain quarters that Ghana squad start early camping because America have started their camping in Brazil, Afriyie says Appiah can only start in May.

“Kwesi Appiah can only get his full squad in May because the players are playing in their league,” Afriyie told Ghana Sports.

“I don’t think our group contenders, USA, Germany and Portugal have started any preparation as far as I am concerned,” he added.

The world awaits the biggest football tournament, which will kick-start in June.

Black Stars are scheduled to play the United States in their opener before taking on Germany and Portugal in Group G.

really nana??? if u call what isa did preparation, then u don't know what the word means. half of the squad that went to brazil won't be there come june. that trip did nothing but waste my tax money. ghanians don't need their tax money spent for a pointless dry run. the rush job to tour the facilities proves nothing. why isn't any other team running to tour brazil in january??? USA may have taken this "leave no stone unturned" mindset a bit too far. its not how u start, but how u finish. USA = first to come, first to go home.
