Striker Abdul Majeed Waris has expressed his disappointment at missing the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.

The Trabzonspor player picked up an injury three weeks ago during a league match and could not recover in time.

Waris was scheduled to spend 10 to 15 days in the treatment room and coach Avram Grant did not want to gamble on his fitness.

“Sad I can’t make it to AFCON due to injury. I was looking forward to this but I know God’s plan for me is bigger than what I want. Destiny can always be delayed but can never be changed. I wish the team well,” Waris posted on his Facebook page.

Waris was overlooked by former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah despite winning the top scorer award and best player in the Swedish top-flight last season.

In the build to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he sustained a knee injury but recovered to play a cameo at the tournament in Brazil.
