Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan set for Al Ain medical

Asamoah Gyan is expected for a medical in Al Ain on Sunday after which the defending Pro League champions expect him to sign a three-year permanent contract with the UAE side.

This means Sunderland have reached a deal to release the attacker to Al Ain after several weeks of tortuous negotiations following his loan spell in the UAE.

The Ghana star was the League’s top scorer last season with 22 goals and ended his year-long loan move from English Premier League side Sunderland by leading Al Ain to a 10th league success.

With The Boss returning to AFC Champions League action next year, the management are keen to make Gyan’s move to the Tahnoun bin Mohammed Stadium permanent.

And it is likely that the 27-year-old will extend his stay.

Al Ain CEO Carlo Nohra told Sport 360 that an announcement concerning the Ghana international, who has scored 28 times in 59 appearances for the Black Stars, is likely in a week’s time.

“Regarding Gyan there’s nothing yet, but we are positive about him staying with us for a few more years. Things will become clear soon,” Nohra said.

The UAE champions have released Argentine midfielder Ignacio Scocco, and have had a $10 million riyal offer for former Saudi Arabia striker Yasser Al Qahtani, turned down by his current club Al Hilal.

Mirel Radoi is the only player to have confirmed he will stay so far, which means if Gyan agrees a new deal, Al Ain will still be searching for two more overseas players, including an Asian.

Al Ain have recruited highly-rated Olympic team defender Mohammed Ahmed Gharib from Al Shabab, but neither he nor playmaker Omar Abdulrahman will be with Cosmin Olaroiu’s side during their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.
