Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan was the sixth most prolific striker in the world for the year 2013.

The UAE-based forward scored 40 goals for club and country.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (69), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (47), Lionel Messi (45), Luis Suarez (42) and Edinson Cavani (41) scored more than the Al Ain player.

Gyan became the first ever player to score 70 goals in two-and-half seasons in the UAE Arabian Gulf League after scoring for Al Ain in their 1-1 home draw with Al Sharjah last week.

He is expected to replicate that for Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.

Sorry to burst your bubble but players in less illustrious leagues such as Lithuania scored more goals but they are not being considered for obvious reasons.

    • Robb says:

Which bubble? Gyan was Sunderland’s highest scorer. He was the joint goal-king in Africa’s World Cup qualifiers 2013.
Second only to Roger Milla in all Africa’s World Cup goals. Highest goal scorer in Ghana’s football history.
Two times goal-king in UAE. Is that a bubble to you?

  3. Robb says:

He scored the fastest goal in 2006 FIFA World Cup at the age of 21.

  4. Kwabena says:

His 40 goals will amount to 13 goals in the EPL. In that case what will be his position.

Hmmmm… I am even shocked at Robb. I wasn’t asking for history lessons. Gyan is my boy but fact is the UAE challenge is not the same as the top leagues. Some players in other leagues got more goals than C Ronaldo but were not considered on this list. Gyan is capable of real greatness if he applies himself and is not lazy. He could be better than Drogba if he works hard and is not complacent.
