Ghana striker Ebenezer Assifuah was beaten to the 2013 CAF U20 Championship Best Player by Egypt’s Saleh Ouda Gomma after Saturday’s final in Algeria.

The Liberty Professionals attacker lost out to the talented who scored from the spot in open play and also during the penalty shootouts where the Youn Pharaohs won 5-4.

Assifuah won two Man-of-the-Match awards during the Group stage in matches against Egypt and Algeria.

The striker scored three times as the tournament’s second joint top scorer.

Assifuah will now look to playing abroad after excelling in the competition with many European clubs said to be interested in signing him in May.

Yesterday, the left back Arkoful was one of the better players on the field,he is just like David Addy, top quality player but yesterday, the captain Lartey gave a standing ovation performance.I think it is the defense that got us to the finals,we should reinforce our attacking midfield and the strike force but the WHOLE team WAS mazing yesterday.

    • GHFUO, BE SERIOUS NOT PRIDEFUL! says:

assifuah was GETTING DOUBLE TEAMED, BUT GOMAA WASNT. TETTEH,WHY? THE GH STRIKERS LIKE ASSIFUAN N NARH ARE NORTH/SOUTH STRIKERS. THEY NEED TO HANDLE 1 ON 1 SITUATIONS AGAINST THE OPPOSING DEFENDERS, TRY TO SHAKE THEM OFF. TAKE INITIATIVE IN GETTING FOULS INSIDE THE 18, PLAYING WITH YOUR BACK TO THE OPPOSING GOALIE…THESE ARE THINGS THEY MUST WORK ON AS STRIKERS. HAD TETTEH DONE THIS, GH WOULD HAVE WON. THIS INFERIOR COMPLEX IS WAT COST GH THE TROPHY. WE SHOULD NEVER LOSE A FINAL GAME. THE BOYS FOUGHT GALLANTLY. WELL DONE N BETTER LUCK NEXTTIME.

  2. Weldone boys..you faught for your motherland Ghana ‘n we are proud of you eventhough we couldn’t grab the main prize.i hope the w/c would be a wonderful tournament for you and the rest of our entire nation..

  3. Dr Who says:

Assifuah should go to Udinese and mature well for GH.Adiyiah and Ransford Osei didnt join the right teams that is why they couldnt progress steadily after U20 WC.The manager of Assifuah should take the best decision for him.GH players who joined Udinese matured well eg Stephen Appiah,Sulley Muntari,Gyan and Badu.

  4. Nimo says:

@viper I agree with u the defence was really effective throughout the tournament, but better defenders should be welcomed should they emerge before the WC and that goes to the attackers also, they definitely need to train harder, other strikers like Yiadom, Acheampong etc should be brought in to see how it goes. They can conquer the world again seriously, a more effective forward and midfield is all they need which I hope will be sorted out, I can wait to see them play at the WC

Good performance from Ghana U20. As Zambia we lack on that part at this level of the game. Atleast I watched a number of faces that are young coz in most cases you guys feature old men masquarding as U20. Talk of John Mensah, we watched him as U20 defender barely 10 yrs ago but last year, when he was 20yrs accotding to your counting, u guys called him ‘an old man!’ What a shame, let us stop age cheating for the sake of becoming champions!

  7. Neutral says:

Meant to say 29yrs not 20 years.
