Lorient lead striker Jordan Ayew says he is determined to improve his conditioning after scoring his second Ligue 1 goal in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Caen.

Ayew had extended holidays this summer after featuring for Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

He did not have enough pre-season work and has struggled to be at his best form since moving from Olympique Marseille to Lorient.

The 22-year-old admits he lacks the requisite fitness and aims at improving.

“I am focusing on my physical condition and my own performance, I have to feel good on the ground to push the team,” Ayew told France.fr

“I had no pre-season, I arrived a week before the championship began, I was on vacation. It is quite normal that I started to be sluggish.

“I'm not worried at all. We lost a lot of players coming here I knew it would be a complicated season, not easy in any case, I am not surprised of the situation, we must cling.”
