Jordan Ayew impressed and lasted the entire duration as Aston Villa lost their first match of the season in a 1-0 reserve at home to Manchester United on Friday night.

The son of Ghana legend put up a stirred up second half performance that reminded us all about his potentials.

The summer signing came for heavy criticism after his poor output against promoted Bournemouth last Saturday despite Villa winning 1-0.

Ayew came close to scoring the equaliser when he seized on Mata's misplaced pass to send a 20-yard drive not far over.

Villa's hopes of a first Premier League home win over Manchester United for 20 years ended in disappointment as Adnan Januzaj's goal left them empty-handed.

ASTON VILLA: Guzan; Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi; Veretout (Sanchez 78), Westwood, Gueye; Ayew, Agbonlahor, Sinclair (Gestede 58).

Unused subs: Bunn, Baker, Richardson, Hutton, Kozak.
