Ghana striker Jordan Ayew welcomes constructive criticism

Ghana international Jordan Ayew says welcomes criticisms of his playing style because it helps to make him a better player.

The want-away Aston Villa forward insists that criticisms of the performaces of player in games either positive or negative, is a part of the game of football.

The 24-year-old cited the example of the two biggest football stars – Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi who have have dominated the FIFA Ballon d’Or since its inception with seven titles between them.

“People criticize Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi, why can’t they criticize me? It is part of our game [football],” Jordan Ayew said in an interview with Nana Aba Anamoah, host of GH One TV flagship current affairs show, State Of Affairs.

He continued: “I don’t have any problem [with criticisms]. It is normal. If they [fans] criticize you, it means you are a very good player and they really count on you. It is a good sign and maybe a bad sign for your family who may hear it.”

Jordan Ayew has scored 12 goals in 37 matches since making his debut for the Ghana national team against Swaziland in September 2010.

At club level, he has represented for French giants Olympique Marseille who nurtured his talent, Sochaux and FC Lorient all in France.

At the start of the 2015 English Premier League season, he moved to Aston Villa for a reported £8.4 million transfer fee.

Jordan scored 7 goals in 30 games in his debut season for Villa but was unable to keep his side from relegation to the Championship.
