Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has said an emotional goodbye to relegated French club Valenciennes as his loan stint comes to an end.
The 22-year-old benefited from regular first team action since joining Les Atheniens on a six-month loan deal from Russian club Spartak Moscow in January.
Waris scored nine goals in 16 Ligue 1 appearances during his short stint with Valenciennes where he has been the toast of the club fans.
His impressive form was however not enough to keep the side afloat as Valenciennes crashed out of the French top flight.
Waris however remains a hugely popular figure at the Stade du Hainaut.
In an emotional goodbye, the Black Stars striker said he wished he ‘could stay longer’ while being sure the side will make an immediate return to Ligue 1.

“I wish I can stay longer but I know for sure they coming back league 1 next season.â€
The ex BK Hacken star has been named in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2014 World Cup.
He will therefore be in Ghana to be part of the non-residential camp of the Black Stars that begin on May 20.
