Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris came off the bench to play for Spartak Moscow but he could not help them avoid defeat at the hands of their host - Krasnodar in a 4-0 routing at the Stadion Kuban' on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old was introduced as a 28th minute replacement for injured striker Artem Dzyuba but he could not help the giants avert their fate on the night.

Spartak manager Murat Yakin was hoping the Ghana international could breath live into their attack after conceding an early 27th minute goal but Krasnodar, who were hungry for goals added three more goals after the break to condemn them to their first defeat of the brand new season.

Waris was playing his second game in the 3-week-old season after joining Spartak late for pre-season following Ghana's participation at the 2014 World Cup.

Despite garnering some playing minutes, he has been linked with a move away from the club before the closure of the transfer window.
