Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris wants the Black Stars to hugely impress at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to placate fans after the calamitous World Cup campaign.

Waris was a member of the squad which suffered an early elimination in Brazil after players threatened to boycott the final Group match if appearance fees were not paid.

The Ghana players had a hostile reception in Accra and Kumasi after the tournament despite apologizing for their “misbehavior.”

“This AFCON is an opportunity for some of us the players to go and correct the mistakes we made at the World Cup, make Ghana proud and make everyone know that we are still the best team in Africa,” Waris said.

“Everyone wants to be there so I believe we are going to work 100% at our clubs to be able to make the final squad.”

The Trabzonspor striker was on target for the Black Stars when they beat Togo 3-1 to top Group E and qualify for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
