Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is being monitored by the medical team after picking up a knock in training on Tuesday.
The Al Ain has been training but not fully-fit to play 90 minutes of football.
His injury was key to Ghana's cancellation of a final pre-Nations Cup friendly scheduled for today (Wednesday) at their camping base in Seville, Spain.
A Ghana FA statement read: ââ¬ÅThe precautionary decision comes in the wake of the knock suffered by captain Asamoah Gyan during training.
ââ¬ÅWith some few days before the start of the competition in Equatorial Guinea, Grant has decided to protect his players from likely injuries.ââ¬
Gyan will be making his Nations Cup appearance in Equatorial Guinea where two years ago, a semi-final penalty miss against eventual winners Zambia led to massive verbal abuse on social media which pushed to take a temporary break from international football.
Two other players Frank Acheampong and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu also suffered knocks in training and are not 100% fit.
Ghana depart for their tournament camp base, Mongomo, on Wednesday ahead of their Group C opener against Senegal on 19 January.
